The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a police corporal who attempted to bomb a church in Akwanga Local Government during a Church service on Friday last week.
Jonathan Gyanet, attempted to bomb the church with substance in a tear gas canister on Good Friday before he was arrested
The Assistant Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Tarfa, told reporters in Lafia that investigation into the attempted attack had started, pointing out that the suspect claims he was paying the church to pray for miracle for him.
Mr Tarfa, in charge of criminal investigation, said the suspected terrorist absconded from the police college in Kaduna.
It became doubtful if the suspect’s claims were true when the pastor, Chiaondu Igbasue, countered the allegation that he offered him money for miracle to enable him return to his job as police corporal.
The State Police Command also said that it had recorded significant success in the arrest of 26 persons involved in criminal activities.
Items recovered by the police include assorted guns, ammunitions and military uniforms from the criminals and cultist who were paraded along with the suspected terrorist.
The police say Nasarawa State remains intolerant to criminal activities, warning that no effort will be spared to rid the state of crime.
