Obasanjo Would Have Freed Chibok Captives if He's Still On Seat – Ndume

A Nigerian house of representative Senator Ali Ndume, has expressed regret for not pushing former President Olusegun Obasanjo for third term.

In his words, Chibok girls abducted by the Boko Haram sect on April 14, 2014, would have been freed from captivity den if the retired General was on.

Ndume, who was speaking during the usual sitting protest of the Bring Back Our Girls group, lamented that the girls were still in custody of their abductors five months after they were forcefully taken into captivity.

“I would have championed Obasanjo’s third term because if he had been at the helm of leadership in Nigeria, this insurgency would have stopped”, he said.

He called on the BBOG group to continue its advocacy until the abducted girls were back, adding that the group and other similar groups had the responsibility of holding leaders accountable.

“The government is allergic to groups like this. If you can’t make your leaders accountable to provide for you, you change them. The people should hold us accountable because the voice of the people is the voice of God”, he said.

Ndume, while speaking on the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) occasioned by the insurgency in the North-East, stated that his team had started compiling names so as to have a comprehensive list of the IDPs, which would help in catering for them.

“We are trying to compile names of displaced persons. This will help to deal with that issue. If you go there, you will see that they are organised. The people need help and we are doing everything to help them”, noted.
