Raymond Dokpesi
Ahead of the Elective National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, an aspirant to the office of the National Chairman of the Party, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, on Tuesday accused some members of its Board of Trustees (BoT) of trying to hijack the party ahead of the national convention for selfish interest.
Dokpesi who made the accusation yesterday shortly after he submitted his nomination form at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja accused some members of the BoT who accompanied some national chairmanship aspirants during their campaigns and be telling delegates and other party stake holders that the BoT had endorsed their ambition.
This came just as another Aspirant, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, a former Sports and Special Duties Minister picked his nomination for the race and canvassed for the Unity among the members of the Party for it have a successful Convention where its new National officers would emerge
Addressing news men shortly after he obtained the form, Adedoja promised to float profitable business outfits for the Party in order to make it financially independent while the welfare of the workers would be given high priority as a group insurance would be put in place for Establishment staff as well as Journalists.
Adedoja who pointed that there was nothing wrong with PDP insisted that what it needed ahead of the 2019 General elections is proper marketing for Nigerians to make it household name again
He promised that if elected as the National Chairman of the Party, he would float a National Football Team for the Party as a seasoned Sports administrator as part of strategies to market the Party to the members of the Public
On his own part, Dokpesi also faulted the recent endorse of some aspirants aspirants by the South west Zone members of the BoT and called for a stop to the act in the over all interest of the Party
According to Dokpesi, “Members of BoT want to take over the party. Some people want to use BoT to take over the day to day running of the party.Members of BoT have been going out with some aspirants. They have been meeting delegates and stake holders of the party
“Some of them (BoT members) smart as they are, are peddling rumours that the BoT has endorsed some aspirants as their choice candidates “.
Dokpesi, who also stated that the issue of a consensus candidate mighty still arise, stated that the aspirants would in a couple of days, sign terms of settlement on the accord which had been drafted.
Speaking earlier, the National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Sen. Abdul Ningi, commended the chairmanship aspirants
for helping to revive the interest of the party in Nigeria.
According to him, You have told the international community that there is a strong opposition party that will give the ruling party a run for its money any day, any time.”
He however assured that “nobody will intimidate us into taking any position, we will ensure free and fair convention in the party.”
